Wari Macha Binodinigi (The Collected Short Stories of Binodini) brings together the short stories of Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi (1922–2011), one of the pioneering figures of modern Manipuri literature and culture.
This collection brings together the 19 short stories from Binodini's award-winning 1965 collection Nunggairakta Chandramukhi, along with seven later unpublished stories, making a total of 26 short stories. The stories demonstrate Binodini's distinctive storytelling, graceful prose, empathy and keen observation of human life and society.
The collection explores a wide range of people, relationships and social experiences, including family life, women, migration, community, identity, belonging, cultural traditions and the everyday lives of ordinary people. About the Author
Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi (1922–2011), who wrote under the single name Binodini, was a prominent Manipuri writer and cultural figure. She wrote across several literary and artistic forms, including novels, short stories, essays, dramas, radio plays, screenplays, lyrics and ballet scripts. Her writing is noted for its attention to ordinary people, human relationships and social life.
