Khongjom Parba Amadi Iseising Binodini – Ballads and Songs by Binodini
Khongjom Parba Amadi Iseising Binodini is a collection of Manipuri song lyrics and the celebrated ballad Khongjom Parba by Maharaj Kumari Binodini Devi (1922–2011), the renowned Manipuri writer known as Binodini.
This edition brings together Binodini’s songs across different themes, including love, patriotism, nature, children’s songs, and devotional music. Many of the lyrics were set to contemporary music and performed by artists of Roop Raag. The collection also includes her translations of Rabindra Sangeet by Rabindranath Tagore.
The book features Khongjom Parba, a traditional Manipuri ballad about the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891. Binodini’s version extends the traditional narrative with verses about events following the battle, including the executions of Crown Prince Tikendrajit and General Thangal in August 1891.
This second edition follows the earlier collection Imasi Publications’ Isei Binodini (2014), edited by Aribam Syam Sharma and Chongtham Kamala Devi. The lyrics are presented in both Meitei Mayek and Bangla scripts, making the collection relevant to readers interested in Manipuri literature, traditional songs, poetry, and cultural history.
